
The eighth annual athletic meet at ‘The Royal Group of Colleges, Borawal’ was concluded with great pomp and show.
Assistant Professor Harvinder Singh, Head of the Physical Department, shared the information that about 450 students of the college participated in this athletic meet. In this athletic meet, Punjab Police (Retd) AIG Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal attended as the chief guest. While Dr. Sarabjit Kaur Sohal (National Awardee) attended as the special guest. The sports ground was decorated nicely and neatly for this athletic meet. On the occasion of the commencement of this program, the students of the college N. S. S. Department sang Shabads remembering God. In this function, the students of the college were divided into four houses, Himalaya House, Nilgiri House, Vidhianchal House, Shivalik House. The program was started by marching past by the teams of players from all the houses. The chief guest hoisted the flag and formally announced the start of the athletic meet. The opening of this athletic meet was done by releasing gas balloons and pigeons. In the program, volunteers from the NSS department of the college presented two cultural programs, making the entire atmosphere happy. On this occasion, Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal said in his opening words that students should play with the spirit of sports and team harmony. In today’s time, it is very important to motivate students towards sports. So that they can develop all-round. He said that sports are very important to maintain the identity of a person which is being lost in today’s materialistic and mechanized era. On this occasion, special guest Dr. Sarabjit Kaur Sohal said that the sixth river of drugs is flowing in Punjab. Which the youth can stop by linking with sports. Youth can be saved from such vices by connecting them with sports. He motivated the students to read and write as much good literature as possible along with playing sports. Dr. Kuldeep Singh Bal, while thanking the guests, shed light on the various achievements of the college in his speech. He said that we should all work together to preserve the environment and plant as many trees as possible. Keeping this objective in mind, the guests and renowned personalities of the area, Mr. Amritpal Singh Athletic Coach, Mrs. Mati Shalu Rani Judo Coach, Karamjit Kaur Kabaddi Coach, Sarpanch of village Borawal Mr. Lakhwinder Singh Sarpanch and Panchayat members and talented students were honored with shade trees. On this occasion, the winning students of the college at the university level were also honored. In this program, 100 meters race boys Bhupinder Singh (Vidhianchal House), Lovepreet Singh (Himalaya House) and Jashan Das (Himalaya House) secured first, second and third positions respectively.
In the 100 meters race girls Jasvir Kaur (Shiwalik House), Jyoti Kaur (Vidhianchal House) and Khushpreet Kaur (Vidhianchal House) secured first, second and third positions respectively. In the 200 meters girls race Jasvir Kaur (Shiwalik House), Jyoti Kaur and Navjot Kaur (Vidhianchal House) secured first, second and third positions respectively. In the 200 meters race boys Labhpreet Singh, Ravi Singh and Jashan Das (Himalaya House) secured first, second and third positions respectively. 400 meters. In the boys’ race, Bhupinder Singh (Vidhianchal House), Labhpreet Singh (Himalaya House) and Deepak Kumar (Nilgiri House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In the 400 m. girls’ race, Jasvir Kaur (Shiwalik House), Komalpreet (Vidhianchal House) and Komalpreet Kaur (Himalaya House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In the 800 m. boys’ race, Ravi Singh and Lovepreet Singh (Himalaya House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In the 800 m. In the girls’ race, Jasvir Kaur (Shiwalik House), Karamjit Kaur (Himalaya House), Virmati Kaur (Vidhianchal House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In the boys’ long jump, Bhupinder Singh (Vidhianchal House), Hardeep Singh and Gurvinder Singh (Shiwalik House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. While in the girls’ long jump, Jyoti Kaur (Vidhianchal House), Rashdeep Kaur and Harpreet Kaur (Himalaya House) secured the first, second and third positions respectively. In the boys’ tug-of-war competition, Nilgiri House prevailed and in the girls’ tug-of-war competition, Vidhianchal House won the competition. In this athletic meet, the best athlete Bhupinder Singh (Vidhianchal House) and Jasvir Kaur, a student of Shivalik House, won the title of best athlete. These students were specially honored. On this occasion, a first aid team was formed by The Royal College of Nursing. The role of stage management was played very well and neatly by Assistant Professor Samandeep Kaur. The winning students were honored by presenting medals and certificates. On this occasion, the college chairman Mr. Ekamjit Singh Sohal congratulated the winning students and especially congratulated the head of the physical department, Assistant Professor Harvinder Singh, Madam Amandeep Kaur and all the staff and encouraged them to design more such programs, through which the students can become capable of creating a better society and can bring glory to themselves and their parents.
